About

I am an associate professor in the Department of Philosophy at Stockholm University. Before moving to Stockholm, I was a lecturer in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences at the University of Edinburgh and a Mellon postdoctoral fellow in natural language semantics and pragmatics in the Department of Philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University. My primary areas of research are philosophy of language, formal semantics, and logic, but I am interested in issues in a variety of other areas such as epistemology (including formal epistemology), philosophy of mind, and applied ethics. I have taught classes at both the graduate and undergraduate levels on topics in each of these areas.

Research Project

I'm currently the PI for a 3-year research project on linguistic and epistemological perspectives on testimony -- focusing mainly on public scientific testimony. The project is funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond in Sweden and is run in collaboration with two other project members, namely Mikkel Gerken and Anna-Sara Malmgren. You can find more information about the project and upcoming events in relation to the project here: Linguistic and Epistemological Perspectives on Testimony.

Background

I did my PhD in philosophy under the supervision of Herman Cappelen, Josh Dever, and Jonathan Schaffer at the Arché Research Centre at the University of St Andrews. During my PhD and MA, I was a visiting student at the University of Texas at Austin and at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). My dissertation consisted of a series of papers on the meaning and conversational function of definite descriptions. More recently I have been working on the semantics of proper names, future contingents, and the influence of questions on literal meaning. I am currently writing a book on the semantics of proper names.
